Best Interactive Dog Toys for Bored Dogs 2026

My human leaves me EVERY DAY. For EIGHT HOURS. Do you know how long eight hours is when you are 6 pounds of anxiety with legs? It is FOREVER. I used to cope by eating throw pillows. Three of them. My human was "upset." So they bought me puzzle toys. And honestly? These actually help. I am still upset about being alone. But I am busy-upset instead of destructive-upset. Progress.

6 Toys That Save Your Furniture

1. Outward Hound Nina Ottosson Puzzle

Outward Hound Dog Brick Puzzle - ~$15

Flip lids, slide covers, find treats. This puzzle has THREE different mechanisms, which means it takes me almost 10 minutes to solve. Bean solved it in 4 minutes because his nose is unfairly powerful. Atlas solved it in 2 because he is an overachiever. But for normal dogs? 10-15 minutes of focused mental work. My human says I am "calmer" after. I say I am "treat-satisfied." Same thing.

2. KONG Wobbler

KONG Wobbler - ~$18

It wobbles. It dispenses treats. I push it. It wobbles MORE. More treats fall out. I push it AGAIN. This cycle continues for 20 minutes or until the treats run out, whichever comes first. The weighted bottom means it rights itself every time, which is infuriating and addictive. My human fills it with my breakfast kibble so I have to WORK for my food instead of inhaling it in 30 seconds. Rude but effective.

3. Trixie Activity Board

Trixie Activity Flip Board - ~$12

Five different puzzle mechanisms on one board. Cones to flip, sliders to push, lids to lift. It is basically a final exam for dogs. I was skeptical at first because it looked complicated and I am a SIMPLE DOG with SIMPLE NEEDS. But my human showed me one compartment and then I figured out the rest through sheer treat-motivated determination. Bean uses his nose for all of them. Show-off.

4. Snuffle Mat

AWOOF Snuffle Mat - ~$16

Imagine a shag carpet made specifically for hiding treats in. You sprinkle kibble or treats throughout the fabric strips, and then you use your nose to find them all. It sounds simple because it IS simple. But it activates foraging instincts and slows down fast eaters. I spent 25 minutes on this yesterday and then fell asleep on it because sniffing is EXHAUSTING. Machine washable, which matters because it will smell like treats forever.

5. PetSafe Busy Buddy Tug-A-Jug

PetSafe Tug-A-Jug - ~$12

A bottle. With a rope through it. You pull the rope, treats fall out. SOMETIMES. The randomness is what makes it brilliant. You never know which pull gives the reward, so you just keep going. And going. And going. Tank nearly pulled his through a wall once, which is not the intended use case. For normal-strength dogs, it provides 20-30 minutes of engagement. The rope is replaceable, which is thoughtful.

6. LickiMat Classic

LickiMat Classic - ~$10

Spread peanut butter, yogurt, or wet food across the textured surface. Then lick. For a LONG TIME. The grooves and bumps make it impossible to get everything in one swipe, so you just keep licking. And licking produces calming endorphins. My human freezes mine with peanut butter and it lasts 30 minutes. I am calm afterward. Suspiciously calm. It is basically therapy that tastes like peanut butter.

Keeping Your Dog Mentally Sharp

Nugget filed this review from the safety of her donut bed, where she is recovering from the mental exertion of 15 minutes of puzzle time. She would like everyone to know she is still upset about being left alone.
